Eurotrip 1850

I’m currently in the middle of writing a dissertation for the School of Geography about the 1850 trip taken by Frederick Law Olmsted, his brother John, and their friend, Charles Loring Brace, to England. It is a very serious dissertation which deals with many very serious issues about landscape, social structure, mobility, cultural genealogy, and other such very serious sounding terms! It is written in a small typeface and it will have many footnotes which will probably remain unread! It uses words which should be really be avoided in polite company, like ‘intersubjectivity’!

But we in the academy have recently been squirming over things like ‘making research matter’ and ‘engaging with publics’ (although as soon as you pluralize the word ‘public’ you will be engaging to exactly no one). In this new, brave, propagandistic spirit, I bring you the first in a series of AWESOME PICTORIAL VERSIONS of Olmsted’s Eurotrip ’50!
