At the time it seemed to many geographers, especially those who prided themselves on their qualitative assessments, that their lovely Geographia was being abducted by a rude and Neanderthal Quantifactus. Splashing across the Fluvial Calculus to an arid and abstract ‘model landscape,’ Geographia calls to her beautiful but poor shepherd Qualifactus as he stands on the river bank verdant with meadow flowers lamenting her passing. Poor Geographia! Yet, as we shall see, she survived this and subsequent mishandling, and even got her own back.
